Steve* allowed to move interstate with QAI's help

Queensland Advocacy Inc (QAI)'s Mental Health Legal Service represented Steve under a Forensic Order at a hearing before the Mental Health Review Tribunal relating to an application for approval to move interstate. Steve wished to move closer to family supports who lived interstate.

Steve experienced significant distress about encountering people involved in the index offences in Queensland, which was significantly impeding his recovery. The Attorney-General had opposed the application.

QAI assisted Steve by obtaining an interim disposition from the relevant interstate authorities that Steve would be detained in an appropriate mental health facility, and be placed under the state’s equivalent of a Forensic Order upon arrival. This was vital to the MHRT’s decision to approve Steve's application to move interstate.

This is a significant positive step in the Steve's rehabilitation, allowing him to be closer to personal supports.
