Domestic violence across several states

Karolina* visited Australia on a working holiday six years ago when she met, fell in love with and married an Australian.

She experienced extreme physical violence perpetrated by her husband. She left him, but he stalked her across several states and continued to threaten to kill her.

A women’s shelter contacted Townsville Community Legal Service’s Immigration Legal Service. They worked collaboratively with support workers at the women’s shelter, providing a responsive service to the urgent family violence migration issues.

Karolina’s migration issues have now been fully resolved. As a result of Townsville Community Legal Service's assistance, Karolina has more knowledge of her rights and where to get help. She has decreased stress and anxiety, and improved personal safety.

After years of fleeing across several states, Karolina can finally feel more secure in one place.
