In operation for over 30 years, Caxton Legal Centre offers free legal assistance and social work services, publishes self-help kits and handbooks, and undertakes community legal education and law reform activities.
Caxton Legal Centre represents the interests of people who are disadvantaged or on a low income when they come into contact with the law. Caxton do this by strategically advocating to government, providing legal advice and social work services, publishing legal information and building community awareness about the issues faced by the people they help. Caxton is an independent, non-profit, non-government community organisation.
The Centre also offers specialist programs in a range of areas including family law, a seniors’ legal service and consumer law.

To book an appointment the centre will need some information like names, dates of birth, contact numbers, and brief explanation of what caller needs advice about.

Commercial leases or to business owners, investment products, financial advice or products, gambling products, purchase or selction of insurance, investment properties, superannuation fund issues, taxation, building and trade disputes, goods and services over $40,000, professional disputes with doctors, lawyers, accountants etc, Centrelink disputes, personal injury, income protection, immigration, native title or conveyancing or wills and estates.

Evening advice sessions are staffed by a roster of approximately 200 lawyers, law students and other helpers who give their time free of charge. Clients are usually able to see a qualified lawyer for about 20 minutes for free legal advice.

CONSUMER LAW SERVICE
Caxton offers a specialist consumer law service to people affected by debt. The Consumer Law Service will offer legal advice in any of the following areas:
* debt collection
* mortgages and repossessions
* loans or credit cards;
* payday or unsecured loans
* any other debt or credit legal problem.
Appointments are available face-to-face or over the telephone during business hours.
The service can also help with general consumer law matters (problems with goods and services) even if there is no credit or debt involved.
SENIORS LEGAL & SUPPORT SERVICE (SLASS)
SLASS provides fee legal and support services for seniors concerned about elder abuse, mistreatment or financial exploitation. The service offers a range of appointment styles including centre appointments, home visits, outreach to other safe locations and telephone advice.
EMPLOYMENT LAW SERVICE
This service is available to people earning $67, 000 per year or less.
The service can assist with unfair, unlawful and constructive dismissal, workplace bullying, discrimination matters, underpayment and workplace injuries.
