Mackay Regional Community Legal Centre

The Mackay Regional Community Legal Centre Inc. (MRCLC) is an independent non-profit organisation funded by the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General to provide a generalist legal service. Funding is also received from the Commonwealth Government as part of the Family Relationship Centre partnership.
The service is administered by a volunteer Management Committee.

Hours & appointment times:

Four solicitors provide legal advice and limited casework assistance by appointment 9:00am - 1.00pm, 2.00pm-3.00pm Monday to Friday.Appointments can be arranged for up until 5.00pm. 

Legal advice evenings are staffed by volunteers on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 5.30pm-7.40pm. 
Volunteer solicitors, migration agent and social workers provide legal information, advice, referrals and counselling to members of the community by appointment.

More information:

MRCLC provides free and confidential legal information, advice, referral and counselling throughout the Mackay Regional Council, Whitsunday Regional Council and Isaac Regional Council areas. This can be provided in a face to face interview or by telephone.

On-going casework is subject to casework guidelines. No court representation is provided. Legal advice is provided by appointment only, so please telephone us to make a booking.

The MRCLC provides legal advice appointments in Cannonvale at the Whitsunday Crisis and Counselling Service (WCCS) and Proserpine Community Centre on the third Friday of the month. These outreach services may also include general information sessions on certain areas of law, such as family law.

The MRCLC delivers information sessions at the Family Relationship Centre in Mackay in partnership with Legal Aid (Mackay) and the Family Relationship Centre. The MRCLC receives funding to participate in this partnership from the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department. The sessions are designed to inform and educate separated parents about their legal rights and responsibilities and their children’s rights and to prepare separated parents for mediation.

Translation services are available by arrangement. Clients are welcome to bring a support person to their appointment if they so choose.

Additionally, MRCLC provides tenancy advice as part of the Queensland Statewide Tenant Advice and Referral Service (QSTARS).

The MRCLC may provide services in other towns, such as Bowen, Moranbah and Sarina. Please check our website under the Services tab to find out when we will next be visiting those areas.
