Matthew* is a long term sufferer of mental health issues with minimal vision who enjoyed his employment in the youth sector.
In 2016, Matthew lost his job when his Blue Card was cancelled due to criminal charges (unrelated to his work with young people) that Matthew had pleaded guilty to in 2015. He could no longer support his family and spiralled into financial hardship, stress and depression.
Unable to navigate the system himself, LawRight's Self Representation Service in Townsville organised a local Barrister to assist Matthew at the QCAT review. QCAT overturned the decision of Blue Card Services and Matthew’s blue card was reinstated.
Matthew was able to return to work and no longer relies on the Disability Support Pension.
