Alex* contacted Cairns Community Legal Centre for help with a dispute with an insurance company which came about when she crashed her car.
The accident was caused when the other driver made a turn in front of Alex’s car and Alex’s car was written off.
Alex speaks English as a second language and was having difficulty negotiating with the other driver’s insurance company.
The Cairns Community Legal Centre sent letters on behalf of Alex to the company, and provided them with the documents they needed.
The Centre also sent in a complaint to the Credit and Investments Ombudsman on behalf of Alex, after which the insurance company agreed to continue negotiations with the Centre.
Eventually the settlement amount the company had taken from Alex was deposited into Alex’s bank account.
