Frank* is a 72 year old man, and English is his second language. He contacted Cairns Community Legal Service for help because he was in a secured dementia facility after an acute health episode. Though his health and capacity had improved, he was having trouble receiving further specialist assistance and getting out of the facility.
Frank was also concerned about his solicitor was taking money out of his account without his permission.
Cairns Community Legal Service has a Seniors Legal and Support Service division, and a social worker there was able to appoint a social worker to assess his capacity, which allowed Frank to exit the facility.
Frank also received legal advice from a solicitor from the Service about his missing money.
