Rose has dealt with multiple serious medical conditions for many years. She is now 58 and lives with chronic pain. She recently had extreme difficulty paying for the necessary physio and other essential expenses. Her only income was $538 per fortnight from a Centrelink Newstart allowance. Rose applied for a Disability Support Pension but was refused.
Townsville Community Legal Service helped Rose to go before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal to appeal the decision. She was successful and was granted the Disability Support Pension.
Rose now receives $814 per fortnight and finds it easier to pay for the essential physiotherapy. As a result, Rose’s health has improved and she is less anxious about making ends meet.
