Rina* is from a refugee background, speaks English as a second language, and has a history of trauma, anxiety and depression. She is living between friends and is at risk of homelessness. Her only source of income is Centrelink payments.
She came to South West Community Legal Centre’s Neighbourhood Centre for advice on filling in a divorce application. A lawyer assisted Rina to finalise the forms and go through the court process.
Her application was ultimately successful. The divorce order was declared and the marriage annulled. Staff at the Neighbourhood Centre also assisted her with her housing needs and Rina also became involved in a number of social activities at the centre.
