Nick was having issues with repair and maintenance of the property he was renting. He issued multiple breach notices to the lessor to try and get things fixed. The repairs needed involved rotting beams and wood rot on a stair case and numerous electrical hazards.
Rather than carry out repairs the lessor issued Nick with a notice to leave.
The lessor had an obligation to repair and maintain the premises. Tenants Queensland assisted Nick to dispute the notice to leave and obtain an order for repairs to be carried out. They also helped Nick put in a claim for a rent decrease.
Nick remained in the premises for a short period of time. However, repairs were not carried out and Nick finally terminated the contract and claimed compensation.
