Reuniting a mother and her children

Hannah* is a mother of two young children who were in foster care for nearly two years.

She told Suncoast Community Legal Service that the father of the children had sexually abused them and afterwards, she found it difficult to cope with the subsequent stress and separation. She went to the Department of Communities to have her children placed into temporary foster care. However, the Department refused to return the children. She was only allowed supervised contact visits with her children once per fortnight.

Hannah came to Suncoast Community Legal Service for advice. The lawyers at Suncoast communicated and negotiated with the Department.  Eventually, the children were allowed back with their mother full-time.
