Phil* was injured at work and on a sickness benefit, but someone at his work allegedly told Centrelink that he was no longer employed and so his benefit was cancelled. He could no longer pay rent, was worried he would be evicted and was so stressed he took himself to the hospital emergency department with thoughts of self-harm and planning a crime to get money for rent.
Hospital social workers connected him to LawRight’s Health Advocacy Legal Clinic, which is at the hospital two days each week. LawRight’s team of lawyers, law and social work students helped Phil to resolve his problems with Centrelink.
