MIchelle* and her teenage son Jake* contacted Central Queensland CLC seeking advice on changing Jake’s surname from his father’s to his mother’s.
Jake hadn’t had contact with his father for many years and as his father had also been convicted of child sex offences, Jake wanted to remove any link to him. But his father refused to sign any documents allowing this change.
Central Queensland CLC helped Jake and Michelle prepare their court documents to file an application for Jake’s surname change and these were served on his father. Central Queensland CLC also provided Michelle with support and advice to help her appear in Court, where she and Jake were successful in obtaining a Court Order to change his surname.
