“Hear her voice” consultation sessions – January 2023

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) is conducting consultation sessions in January on legislative reforms in the response to recommendations make by the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce.

The second stage of legislative reforms will implement key recommendations in Chapter 3.9 of the Taskforce’s first report, Hear her voice – Report One – Addressing coercive control and domestic and family violence in Queensland, including the creation of a new offence to criminalise coercive control.

This stage of reform will also implement a range of recommendations from the Taskforce’s second report, Hear her voice – Report Two – Women and girls’ experiences across the criminal justice system, including to create an affirmative model of consent in Queensland.

To inform the development of a Bill to implement these reforms, the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) is conducting targeted consultation on technical and/or operational issues that may arise from the implementation of the Taskforce’s recommendations.

Feedback is not being sought on the policy positions of the initiatives contained in the consultation discussion paper. This is because the policy positions reflect recommendations which have been supported or supported in principle by Government.

A consultation discussion paper is available (link in the the downloads below) and DJAG will conduct consultation sessions on the consultation discussion paper from 17 January 2023 to 30 January 2023, via Microsoft Teams.
