Presented by Human Rights Law Centre & Victoria Legal Aid
A lot more diverse legal profession is critical to providing clients and communities with the best possible legal services. Yet inequality continues to exist within the legal profession, including in the ways in which barristers are briefed. Equitable briefing policies aim to improve opportunities for women and diverse counsel through measurable targets and other tools to guide fairer briefing practices.
In this session, we will provide practical tips for creating and embedding equitable briefing practices. We will share the learnings and challenges of implementing equitable briefing policies and practices in our organisations. We will also explore some of the ethical challenges of implementing these policies in pro bono matters and workshop strategies to drive change to promote equity not just for our clients, but also in the ways we operate within the legal profession.
