Women have the right to equality of opportunity and outcome with their male counterparts. Gender-based discrimination against women is profoundly unjust and an affront to human dignity.
Women should be able to live free from violence and discrimination. Discrimination is when a person with a certain characteristic (such as gender) is treated less favourably than a person without that characteristic in the same or similar circumstances. Sexual harassment is against the law in Queensland and is prohibited by the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. Sexual harassment is any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature that is done either to offend, humiliate or intimidate another person, or where it is reasonable to expect the person might feel that way. It includes uninvited physical intimacy such as touching in a sexual way, uninvited sexual propositions, and remarks with sexual connotations.
