All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Human beings of all sexual orientations and gender identities are entitled to the full enjoyment of human rights.
People who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, or queer are protected from discrimination by law. The Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 makes it unlawful to discriminate against a person because of their gender identity.
Under the Human Rights Act 2019, every person in Queensland has the same rights and deserves the same level of respect. Section 15 of the Act specifically provides for ‘the right to enjoy other human rights free from discrimination’. This means that laws, policies and programs should not be discriminatory, or enforced in a discriminatory way.
