Above and Beyond: Health Justice Partnerships

Presented by Hume Riverina Community Legal Service

Health Justice Partnership (HJP) work is challenging and goes beyond being a good lawyer or health professional. It requires you to understand both worlds and to prioritise client needs whilst also meeting different professional obligations. This can be a tricky space, but it can also lead to the best outcomes for legal and health problems.

Hume Riverina Community Legal Service (HRCLS) has worked closely with Health Justice Australia to discuss all things HJP and how to best embed this work across a legal service. This session will share learnings and advice that came out of this collaboration. The discussion will cover being a new lawyer in an established HJP, the referral/intake processes, how getting “buy in” can look in HJPs of different sizes and the role partnership “championships” can have within a legal service to inform service leadership and bring others on the partnership journey.
