Phil* was injured at work and on a sickness benefit, but someone at his work allegedly told Centrelink that he was no longer employed and so his benefit was cancelled. He could no longer pay rent, was worried he would be evicted and was so stressed he took himself to the hospital emergency department with thoughts of self-harm. He was also planning a crime to get money for rent.
Hospital social workers connected him to LawRight’s Health Advocacy Legal Clinic, situated at the hospital two days a week. LawRight’s team of lawyers, law and social work students helped Phil to resolve his problems with Centrelink.
