Scams and Consumer Rights

October 24, 2024, 11:00am - 12:00pm (AEST)
Hosted by: Community Legal Centres Queensland

Scams are taking a destructive toll in Australia, with many people unable to ever recover the money they have lost.

In this webinar, Maurice Blackburn’s Josh Mennen, Principal Lawyer & National Litigation Leader and Hayriye Uluca, Principal Lawyer and State Litigation Leader in Victoria, will discuss the responsibilities of Banks and other financial institutions to protect customers from being scammed or compensate them where a loss is suffered.

Josh will look at instances where the loss is caused by financial abuse by a friend or family member, including withdrawal of super (a problem that was amplified by the COVID early release of super initiative in which of thousands were coerced into withdrawing super).

Finally, Josh will explore the way in which AFCA and the Regulators handle these matters.
